William Henry Gates III


Son of William Henry Gates Jr. and Mary Maxwell. He has

English, German, Scottish, and Irish ancestry.

Bill Gates was born on October 28, 1955 in Seattle,

Washington.

He was the founder of Microsoft in 1975 along with Paul

Allen, a partner in the creation of programming languages.

Microsoft in 1975, when it was founded, had just three

employees (one of them was Gates) and had revenues of

just $16,000.

At Harvard in 1975, he teamed up with Allen to develop a version of the BASIC

programming language for the Altair, the first personal computer.

In 1977 he dropped out of Harvard to devote himself entirely to his company.

Microsoft also created word processors, such as Microsoft Word for IBM PCs.

They also developed a software application for the Apple Macintosh before the

first Mac was released in 1984.

On June 27, 2008, he left his position at the head of Microsoft, giving control of

the company to Steve Ballmer, to dedicate himself to the Bill and Melinda Gates

Foundation, dedicated to rebalancing opportunities in health and education by

donating large amounts of money to various charitable organizations. and

scientific research programs. They were awarded the 2006 Prince of Asturias

Award for International Cooperation.

On March 13, 2020, Microsoft announced that Gates would be leaving his board

positions at Berkshire Hathaway and Microsoft to pursue initiatives such as

climate change, health, global development, and education.

He was the richest person in the world, between 1995 and 2017, with an

estimated net worth of US$89.9 billion as of October 2017.As of August 2020,

he had an estimated net worth of $113.7 billion, the second richest person in

the world, behind Jeff Bezos.

He married Melinda French on January 1, 1994. They had three children,

Jennifer Katharine (1996), Rory John (1999), and Phoebe Adele (2002).
